Red Door Home!!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations to our fantastic blogging cohort--the diminutive Brooke Giannetti of Velvet and Linen, who is an amazon in the interior design scene. Brooke and architect husband Steve, collaborate from their Santa Monica base, creating and renovating sensational California homes. Kate Murphy of the New York Times featured Brooke's renovated bathroom in her latest home article regaling the return of pink.
Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone color guru's descriptions on the power of color, read like captivating horoscopes:
"Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.
In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues.... Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”
Wow!! I wish that was a cocktail!
Oh it is!
Although, I agree with Brooke that the Farrow and Ball Pink Ground she selected for her bathroom is far more soothing.
We have followed Brooke around the Santa Monica flea as she collects her art and treasures. The paintings kick the bathroom up a notch, and the lovely detail of the framed mirror on hinges covering the original medicine chest completes the transformation.
Brooke and Steve's synergistic combination extends beyond architecture and interiors. I have to mention that Steve is a very talented artist, and I have been incubating a terrible case of the "I wants." His art has progressed from his energetic architectural renderings into something entirely new.
Steve's sketches for a new villa
Evocative and serene water views are a natural direction for a Southern Californian. Resisting the temptation to do the tired seascapes saturating the galleries of coastal towns, Steve has captured the ephemeral moment and transient light of water and sky.
It is almost unfair to have this amount of talent!
The eclectic and unique Giannetti Home store on 1st Dibs carries this grouping below.
I cannot resist adding this risque vintage 1920's wool swim suit, on their 1st Dibs site for the benefit of my friends with beach houses
Brooke and Steve create magical and beautifully curated environments that are welcoming and livable. If you live in California, visit the store on

Hi Liz, I am visiting you for the first time as you have just done with me -- I'm so blown away and happy to have found you. The pieces you are showing are just beautiful. I have seen only glimpses of Brooke's pink bathroom before, and am thrilled to see the beauty of the entire space, thank you. Those two amaze me (and now, so do you!) By the way, being new to you, I'm thinking the picture of the three GORGEOUS girls are yours -- you must be one proud mama :)
ReplyDeleteHappy 2011 Dovecote! I'm looking forward to future posts.....K
ReplyDeleteLiz, what a wonderful blog you have, and that box is just fabulous. Congratulations to your very lucky winner! I made sure and toured your shop, and I just love it. That Ferrat four- poster bed is fabulous as is the bench that Karena loves. You have some very tempting pieces there. I'll be sure to check out your link to Velvet and Linen as well. Love the photos you posted.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the best for 2011... health, happiness, and properity abounding!
XO,
Sheila :-)
Liz,
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the Velvet & Linen site and Brooke is so wonderfully talented---I was so happy for her to receive notice from NY Times.
Have a lovely respite from work during this holiday and may 2011 be a wonderful year for us all!
Karen
What a way to start the new year, winning that box...congratulations to Red Door!
ReplyDeleteBrooke and Steve are the wonder-twins of the design world, and their bathroom is a dream, I love it!
The wallpaper we have picked out for our guest bath is called "Honeysuckle"...but the pink in it is nothing like Pantone's version!
Happy New Year to you Liz, and to the whole Dovecote gang! Many Blessings in 2011!
xo Jessica~
Liz, I was thrilled to see Brooke and her lovely bathroom in NYT; everything they touch seems to turn to gold...make that a beautiful burnished vintage perfect gold...look for pretty pinks soon from Metis.
ReplyDeleteBrooke is so deserving of the honor! It was MY favorite bathroom in the entire article! And it is her lovely charm and humility that makes it all the more wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBrooke brought her children and her husband (again) to visit our house in Santa Barbara so her children could see the ducks (wild) and our chickens (not wild.....but beautiful and smart).......she and Steve are the most loving darling parents you can ever imagine.......and their children are magnificent!
Eager, curious, darling, natural, curious, energetic, enthusiastic!
We had such fun walking all over this wild and woolly property! And the children were fascinated! (if they weren't they should be actors!)
What a wonderful compliment!!!
Oh sorry, one more thing about Brooke and Steve's children!! They are so polite; and look you in the eye....and shake hands.....and thank you in the same way. They are lovely and polite children. And "fun"!
ReplyDeleteYep, Brooke is a keeper. I love the Red to pink that seems to be coming on strong this year. Sending blessing for the new year.
ReplyDeleteLucky Red Door Home - what a wonderful way to start the new year. And what is there more to say about Brooke and Steve - agree with you (of course) - almost unfair that there's so much talent in one family!! Hope you've saved enough pennies to be able to have one of Steve's beautiful paintings for your own. Liz - wishing you only the very best for 2011 - let's make an effort to get together this year!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Thank you so much Liz! You have already done so much for us through your fantastic guest blogs on Velvet and Linen. We had so much fun at Highpoint thanks to you :)
ReplyDeleteThis blog post is such an honor. I do believe I'm blushing Honeysuckle Pink right now!
You are the best my friend!
Congratulations to Red Door Home and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to everyone : )

ReplyDeleteOh, congratulations to Red Door! I love the bathroom. Just gorgeous...And I have to say, I'm in love with that Farrow and Ball paint. Wish I could use it somewhere!!
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy New Year to you Liz!
H.H.
I love pink, but I don't think honeysuckle in any large scale would be something I could live with in my house for long. My office/studio is something more like Brooke's bathroom and I think it is so girly and sweet.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by today! It's always nice to hear from you.
Julie
